Who we are

MIRMA was founded in 1981 in response to instability in the municipal insurance market. MIRMA is a self-insurance pool, functioning entirely for, and owned entirely by, our participating members. Our incorporated association establishes a protected group self-insurance program for its members. Most importantly, MIRMA provides the most comprehensive single-plan property and casualty coverage available today.


Citizens judge their community based on its ability to avoid and mitigate accidents, disasters, and crises. While quality insurance coverage is important to any community, the top priority of every strong community should be to protect their citizens and workers. At MIRMA, we understand that safety and accident prevention is of the utmost importance to strong municipal bodies. That’s why we focus so heavily on accident prevention and risk management.


MIRMA is an incorporated association which establishes a protected group self-insurance program for its members. It provides the most comprehensive uniform property and casualty coverage under one plan available today. MIRMA is not an insurance company or agency, rather a self-insurance pool, owned entirely by participating members. It functions solely for their benefit.

Insurance agents may sell add-ons or auxiliary services to bring up the total cost and make more on the sale.
MIRMA is owned entirely by its members.
Insurance companies are not owned by the municipalities that purchase their services.
Each year, MIRMA distributes funding through our internal grant program to help members purchase those items that will assist with their risk management.
Insurance companies keep any surplus that is left vs. returning some of it to those who paid it.


Our Staff

Our staff is highly experienced, trained, and specifically equipped to handle the unique needs of our membership. Many of our staff are Missouri natives and received their degrees in-state. Diverse backgrounds and skills give our staff the capability to respond to member needs in an efficient, professional, and quality fashion. Worker’s compensation, loss control, claims and litigation, finance, and much more round out our staff’s areas of specialization and expertise. Members’ confidence in our staff is obvious and well-placed because we actively seek and cultivate the best available talent to ensure that MIRMA and its’ membership continues to thrive.
